Ehreth estimates that vaccines annually prevent almost 6 million deaths worldwide. In the USA, there has been a 99% decrease in incidence for the nine diseases for which vaccines have been recommended for decades.” – WHO

“Each year, an average of 226,000 people are hospitalized due to influenza and between 3,000 and 49,000 people die of influenza and its complications, the majority are among adults.” Operation Immunization is a patient care project that strives to increase immunization education and awareness, and raise immunization rates. Our main mission is to continually increase community awareness of immunization information and advise patients on where they can obtain the proper immunizations year-round. In July 2015, Florida passed a new legislative law that expands the capabilities of immunizing pharmacists and added immunization administration as a new role for pharmacy student interns. This will be an exciting era for UF’s APhA Operation Immunization as they will be able to immunize alongside trained and certified health care professionals and practitioners. The passage of this new law will expand the role of student pharmacists and allow for an increase in patient access to preventative care for better health outcomes.
